Nursing home jobs

Nursing home jobs can be broken down into four categories for the most part: registered nurses (RNs), licenses practical nurses (LPNs), geriatric nurses and certified nurse’s assistants (CNAs).

One can find all four types of nurses in large facilities such as big hospital units. Small facilities such as nursing homes are usually the establishments that tend to hire the registered nurses and certified nurse’s assistants. The four nursing positions differ in their level of responsibility as well as their general duties.

Geriatric nurses are people who specialize in helping the elderly. They usually work in nursing homes, and they have a special skill set that allows them to perform a variety of tasks for elderly people. They give senior citizens physical, mental and emotional support.

Certified nurse’s assistants are the ones that people find everywhere. They are extremely busy, and they usually have certification or a nursing degree from an accredited organization. They have too many responsibilities to list. Some of the most common responsibilities are bathing patients, dressing people, feeding patients and being a companion to patients.

Registered nurses usually have extensive training. They may have a four-year degree or a two-year degree. A registered nurse has more responsibility than a CNA has. The registered nurse has to tend to emergencies and monitor patients closely. Such nurses also administer diagnostic tests and medication. Registered nurses usually talk to patients on their way out the door, as well.

Licensed practical nurses are usually responsible for looking after important documents and records. Such people may act as overseers in a nursing home. RNs have more education than LPNs have and usually end up supervising them.

The nursing field is a field that is always hiring and is never full. Care facilities always need people who have the education and the personalities to help other people.

One can start an exciting new career as a nurse by first taking a nursing course. After taking the nursing course, the person can then get some placement help.

A noble yet underappreciated profession, I must say. Nurses do far more than care for people, they actually touch lives. They took care of my ailing father for years and I can never thank them enough! The world will certainly be a much better place if more brave souls would take up nursing courses.

Nice article, I wouldn’t know that there are different types of nurse jobs. I always saw a nurse treating my grandmother, so that is a geriatric nurse. All of this time, I thought one of the nurse doing all kind of job in one time.

This is a very inspiring article. Nurses really undertake one of the most noble jobs in the world, especially those who are caring for the elderly who have been practically abandoned by their relatives. I can relate since I saw how a nurse took care of our grandfather before he passed away.
