The medication aide class provides instruction and demonstration in administration of medication in the Adult Foster Care/Home for Aged environments. Topics covered are roles and responsibilities, pharmacology review, body systems and related medications, common illnesses, classes of medications, Adult Foster Care/Home for Aged regulations as related to medication administration. A practice lab in administration of all routes and types of medication is included.

Students will receive a certificate in Basic medication administration and a certificate in AFC/HFA medication administration licensing rules.

The class is three days in length and both lecture and lab must be passed with a score of 80% or above. Textbooks are provided. The medication aide class presents a large amount of detailed information so it is strongly suggested that the textbook be read before class. Students must be either CNA certified or have completed a minimum 75 hour Nurse Aide training class.
